Hello everyone!

A warm welcome to those visiting this page for the first time =) Also, a special thanks to those who signed up at our booth yesterday. You may have received an e-mail already regarding our regular meetings.

Our first CCF gathering will be this Thursday, Sept 8th from 12:30 to 2pm at SUB 207/209 (the 2nd level of SUB). Feel free to bring your friends, and it is perfectly fine if you are not a Christian! If you are arriving late or have to leave early, it is alright as well =) We will be having an introduction to CCF and will be playing some games.

after a semi-hectic week after monday… and still having a cold (with a lack of sleep)..here i am, finally at home.. unused to staying at home on fri.. and typing this reflection. i truly miss every single moment at retreat. i miss the CCFers as well >< sentences =".="">

i believe it was in the middle of oct… jhuen asked the ST team whether we were interested in hosting a retreat during reading break. i said yes right away b/c i was really excited! having fun with CCFers and becoming closer w/ God? of course!!! i had no clue what we were gonna do at first… and kept replying msgs regarding campsite etc…

shortly after, a sign up list went around during CCF jau wui, asking whether ppl were interested and what days they were available during the reading break. we had the idea of collecting a deposit from ppl who signed up so that they wouldn’t back out so easily. 20 smt ppl signed up.. we also asked SFUCCF to join us.. but since they told us that only 5 ppl were interested.. that was the reason why i had a feeling that not a lot of ppl were gonna attend.

during our ST mini-retreat in dec.. we were more concerned about jan’s revere and our hot pot event more than the retreat. we spent a long time trying to think of our retreat’s theme…and we were stuck. we were all tired from yum cha and couldn’t think at all. after our very touching and emotional team-building activity and revival prayer, we decided to have the theme set in stone on our meeting before hot pot.

we somehow came up with “I’m a Christian 4 Life” theme during our meeting b4 hot pot… and we started thinking of logos like the fish and other random things…. and we realized that there was only ONE month to plan EVERYTHING! thinking of the program and giving ppl positions were easy. i wasn’t assigned a position, so i volunteered to help wing with worship. i was then asked to lead worship, and i thought it would be fine.. campsite had to be visited… pamphlets had to be made.. t-shirts had to be designed and ordered.. songs had to be picked… registration due date… room arrangements… transportation.. equipment.. and number of attendees.

i was surprised to see more SFUCCFers register than UBCCCF!! (what a shame.. we’re hosting too-.-) i wasn’t too concerned about the number of attendees since i heard that some ppl haven’t handed in their forms yet and i counted and knew that we would have 40 ppl. however jhuen was so worried so she asked us to pray about it. and God DID answer our prayers! 45 ppl including 3 dou c’s!!!! it is becoming evident that having this retreat is God’s will!! =)

wing ho and i spent about 2 weeks choosing songs and organizing our worship teams. it was a bit difficult to choose the songs cuz we wanted our theme to match w/ the sermons and our database was limited… anyways we practiced at joyce jie’s house after revere @ sfu… what a FUN practice!!! we were seriously practicing for the 1st couple of hrs.. learning songs and going over the flow.. and after that… we started to fat din LOL jason inching my height.. joyce jie falling “Lord let Your glory FALLLLLLLL” HAHAHHAAHHAHA XD barking jamie chan’s song… laughing till my stomach hurt… but i promised that i would be serious while leading worship =P

“lots of things might happen at the retreat” i started thinking….”what would happen? we would just have fun… hear God’s msg… get to know each other etc..us STs serving…etc.”

only the theme song was set in stone!! nothing else was till the week of retreat! ><>11:30pm prayer movement a week before the retreat. we prayed for everything to be done smoothly… that we won’t miss anything… that God would prep the CCFers’ hearts.. that He would do great things in this retreat.. that God would give strength to Wayne so that HE can speak to us through wayne.. worship…drivers’ safety.. finding their routes… and lots of other stuff. i started becoming a bit worried about my transportation b/c no one was replying my fb msg.. and some other adjustments had to be made. room arrangements were complete a week b4 the retreat…… i was so glad i didn’t have midterms that week… so i could focus on “prepping” for retreat……. and on monday of the retreat some adjustments on the pamphlet had to be made…. i thought it would take awhile to get them printed. but PTL!! it was printed out on tues and we started compiling them after prayer meeting :D transportation was FINALLY all arranged… to bring list completed.. sent out w/ reminder e-mail.. and i was very very excited!! was very tired practicing fri night’s songs and typing out sat worship’s flow on thurs night after a long day of practicing songs after CCF… jubi meeting… and was worried about how to get there….. kept google mapping again and again -.-

to be honest, i didn’t know what to expect from this camp. i really did think that it would be more of a fun retreat than a serious one.

(whoever is reading this has probably read/heard the above many many times…. )

jason wanted to do smt we did at teleios during our campfire…… i had a feeling it wouldn’t happen. i suddenly had this thought..”would revival happen?” but had no clue how it was gonna be executed.

i typed a lot already!! TBC!!

新年快樂!

今年好特別,年初一係星期四,CCF於是係週會時間舉辦了Coffee House同大家共渡佳節! 感謝神讓CCF透過農歷新年可以reach out to students on campus。不單只邀請了好多身邊o既朋友o黎參加,我o地上個禮拜亦都把握機會寫揮春繼而step out of classroom, 齊齊膽粗粗係various loaction(例如: SUB, Irving, Buch等)派揮春去promote Coffee House同CCF! 今日見到好多新臉孔又多人真係好熱鬧 =) Praise the Lord!

導師今日用"大掃除"為題,提到我o地可能係clean up o既途中搵到好多好多遺忘o左o既物件從而勾起很多以前甜酸苦辣o既回憶。可能大家會選擇逃避, 但係大家唔好忘記耶穌有幾愛我o地! 耶穌就係我o地o既牧羊人, 會看顧同保護我o地呢班迷失o左o既羊!! 大家應該學識放低, 因為God is in control and He will take care of it~ "唔洗驚, 耶穌係大廳!!" 大家不防同我一齊o黎個記憶大掃除。我o既意思唔係delete o西所有o野, 而係針對以前我o地o既負面情緒都忘記得一乾二淨!

From 50 years to eternity- What Message am I Getting Out of this Conference? - Dr. Milton Wan

During the closing ceremony of the 50th Winter Conference held at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Vancouver from Dec 27-31, we were asked to write a journal to reflect what we've learned throughout this conference. (copying exactly what i wrote..)

-we have ONE God which brings different people and ages together

-the same experiences of different cultures would end one day, but in prayer we are brought TOGETHER. Prayer is cross-cultural, cross-experience, and cross-language because we are GOD'S church

-the post modern generation feels more lonely despite more communication and busy life

-we should say "I belong, therefore I exist", not "I buy/I feel (this and that...)"

1.)對神有新的認識 (Learning more about God)

He allows us to serve wholeheartedly in the workplace and be the light. People will see the light of God through me by being compassionate. I don't need to preach in order to evangelize because my actions and intentions can be seen from the inside out. God has His plans and He provides the best for everyone in His timing. He can calm me down and fully worship Him. In order to connect to God, I need to connect with myself. I need to reconnect with family and friends. Do it with righteousness, kindness, joy, truth, and LOVE. Fear and anxiety lead to sin. He will provide from everlasting to everlasting. Praying shows our relationship with God.

Make a difference!

2.) 對自己有新的發現 (What I discovered about myself)

He will provide the best job for me where I can shine the light. I dedicated my life to bivocation- God's plan for my profession and my spiritual gift. I need to wait for God's calling. I really don't want to find a job where I can't apply God in the workplace. When I do everything from my heart, people will see that I'm different and will ask why. Since God has given me the role as a student, He knows I have the ability to do my best in my studies.

3.) 重整生命的意義和使命 (Redefining the meaning and mission of life).. this is like a New Year's Resolution

Don't trust everything I learn from textbooks and lectures. I will be serving a lot, but I will be more motivated in my studies. I will spend more time with God and follow His guidance. I will pray more for the people around me and for myself. I need to CHANGE from the inside out by wearing the full armor of God everyday. I also need to do everything out of love, and don't do things to show off. God looks at my heart and not my results. Bring love, hope, joy, peace in all aspects of my life. SHINE YOUR LIGHT!! (the conference's theme song) Being judged allows me to become more motivated to be a better person. Be patient with my family- stop being short tempered and love them wholeheartedly. Don't be afraid or anxious about marks or about serving. I don't know what position I'll have in CCF next year, but He will provide. I need to care more about new people- give theme the support and step out of my comfort zone. I can't just talk to people who are more spiritually mature than I am. I need to HELP others to walk the path with them. As well, I need to talk more with my church friends- God loves them just as much as myself. Do everything in the glory of YOUR name. Praise God even in hardships.

How did I turn from a depressed, rebellious young girl to an optimistic, more mature girl who is thirsty for God and gets hyper about very simple things? Stay tuned for CCFers' testimonies!

Revival in Vancouver

我好少講嗰一次嘅經歷；講真，我仍然唔係好清楚發生咩事。話說，五年前有一晚，high school同學邀請我去佢個church。去咗，個感覺好奇怪，因為睇落去成個聚會都好靈恩，牧師(Henry Hinn)除咗講道外，亦在所有面前醫病。坐我前三排有個太太，牧師離遠都知佢身體有啲事，幫佢祈完禱佢就向後fall back。對大驚小怪嘅我嚟講，簡直係異像。同一晚，牧師亦講咗一個預言：2010年溫哥華會復興！

自此，我一路都好期待2010年嘅降臨，睇呢個預言是否變成事實。由零九起，使者採用復修復和復興為年題，我已有少少意外；但早咗一年，可能係咁kiu ！

到10年，本來都覺得冇乜嘢。原來，我正身處於復興中卻懵然不知。CCF 從平均十六人升至廿六人，而當大家都擔心緊CCF未來會缺乏職員時，竟然recruit到多五個，近年來最大陣型嘅ST，CCF仍然活著，薪火相傳！

神要在我哋嘅城市做嘢，又點會咁少呢！一跳就跳到九月尾嘅ACM嫩愛佈道會！唔單只見到有人因著見證感動而信主；亦更多人為回應神嘅愛而選擇全時間奉獻，一生跟隨神。嗰下唔到你唔感動！我哋溫哥華係富裕、係繁榮，但卻係充滿罪惡；溫哥華係多基督徒、係多人才，但願意付出的卻很少。熟透嘅莊稼就已經在面前，你會唔會係其中一個收取嘅工人呢？

估唔到嘅係，呢個topic幾個月裡面不停再我身邊兜圈。除咗叫我唔好再歲月蹉跎外，要被send out！要肩擔使命！有使者嘅＜獻身後＞sharing group，互勉勵與支持同行者。有CRY事工，我哋年青人要出番力，興起校園，興起教會！不可叫人少看你年輕，出發啦！一齊打呢場屬靈戰爭！直到今晚嘅1040 screening，讓我唔能夠再deny，神在溫哥華，唔同嘅culture、背景、國藉都要聯盟，同樣都知道耶穌基督為我們而死。 We unite because He loves us! We proclaim, we worship, we love because He loves us! ARISE! SHINE!!

The debate tournament came to and end with a big success in the past weekend!
Congratulations to all debators and ADC! Good games! =)
I personally enjoy the debates! Thank you all! =]

So.. CCF won both the semi final and final matchs. So yea! CCF won the debate tournament this year! We won the Cup! =D
(We took the 4th place in the first year we joined the debate tournament. That was in 2007. Last year in 2008, we won the second place. and this year we won the first place! Good job CCF debate team! =D) Keep it up!

SFUDSC Team A Tong Hok did a good job too! One of their debators was sick..she got a very broken voice probably because of the cold/flu.. She still participated in the match and tried her best in the debate.. ! Good job! =]

Enoch Culturathon 2008. Click for the enlarged image. ;)

Culturathon is similar to the popular TV show “Amazing Race” but with a multicultural twist. It is a team challenge of “cultural marathon.” Within designated time participants are required to complete a route through various destinations within multicultural Metro Vancouver in one day. We hope to challenge youth to work together and adapt to situations, broaden their horizons and enhance their sense of responsibility toward local needs.

It will be a one-day event on Saturday, June 28.
Sign up fee is $12 ($10 for early birds before June 1) deadline is June 14. You will need a team of 3-5 people. .. for more details check out http://www.culturathon.enochyouth.org/

I have been to the camp in the past two years and i plan to go again this year. It's a rather physically demanding camp cuz you will get to play lots of games that are physically demanding and mentally challenging. The entire camp runs in a tight schedule to make sure we are not bored at any time. Of course la, we will get very well fed..and the food is just good! haha.. Also, we will get to reflect and share about our thoughts and experience in the game and in life. ... We will be divided into small groups and get to meet people like our age and make friends! =) ... I can't say enough how I appreciate the experience I have had in the past two year's camps; I am looking forward to another great camp, great experience this year! =]

Haven't post anything here for a long time. Suddenly, i feel like doing it tonight.

As I went back in the history to read our posts before ... some lost memories have jumped right back. I missed the time we spent together in the past in CCF.

There's so much to do each day.. there's so much to plan for the future.. There is a long road to go.. How could one afford the time to look back and recall what has happened in the past.. maybe yes, for the near past.. but how far back could/would you go?

I have been a CCFer since end of 2005? coming to be 3 years. One more year, I should be graduating too. Seeing new faces coming to join CCF each year, and old faces leaving...
CCF has been changing..Things have been changing.. We have been changing. Changes good or not.. give me a sense of insecurity. Each change is essentially a challenge to myself, my comfort zone. It takes me time to feel comfortable and find my place again.

As we grow with all the changes.. one thing, we need to bear in mind, i think, ..
Never lose sight of ourselves, God's purposes in us.

In about 4 hours, the semi-final debate match where we are going to fight against ADC will take place.

In the past one or two weeks, our CCF debators have been making their best effort in preparing for this match. Mandy, Maggie, Hans and Tina. I was in the last two meetings with them. It's true that we won't truly understand something until we experience it ourselves. I am not saying that, I fully understand now how much time and effort and how much heart our debators have poured out for every single match, cuz I have never been a debater myself. But I do have a bit to share after being a fan, a supporter all along. =P

First of all, I am really grateful that ADC invited us CCF to participate in this debate tournament. Through this wonderful experience, we learned as individuals and more importantly as a team. So once again, thank you Dear Friends ADC (esp Clement for giving us the inspiring talk at the very beginning.) Another special thanks to Hans who is the coach of our CCF debate team; without Hans, we wouldn't even know where to start. Then, I have to give all my cheers to our CCF debate team (whoever have been on the team.. there are quite many.... like 12? haha.. as well as those who have help and support the team.) Yeah!!! =D

Debators, I see you guys struggle. I see you go through ups and downs. We share them. There are times of inspirations and sparks, confidence, joyfulness (joyful tears) ... there are times of disappointments, discouragments, frustrations and fear.... However, there are always times of Trust, support and love within us. There is ... always ... Passion!

Trudi ar Trudi, I really don't know what to say about you. You let me understand what debate can be. It's not only a sports not only a game not only a competition about talent of speech or arguments. It's an art. It's an art of language and wisdom and more. There is so much to debate and so much it can bring, but first of all, we need to love it and embrace the essence of it. (Hope I am less an outsider now. =P)

Maggie ar Maggie, I am always amazed by your sincerity, by your courage. We all see great potential in you! Keep on going!!! If you ever feel tired and wanna a rest, here's home. :)

Mandy, haha.... you always surprise me with your hidden talents. There's still a lot I don't know about you. But one I believe with no doubt is you need more sleep. Though we all think your "Eye bags" is the most attractive part of you. haha... kidding =P

禱告。感恩。

今天很高興能出席CCF的晚餐, 雖然遲到, 但是整個過程十分愉快. 收到的紙條寫滿祝福的字句, 感覺溫暖. 為神賜給我CCF這個大家庭而感恩. 為認識到一班好像親人一樣的弟兄姐妹而感恩. 為相聚的時間而感恩.

最近發生的另一些事, 更令我感受到禱告的力量. 上個星期, 做功課趕報告的時間, 實在苦得要命. 實在不知如何做下去. 又想到co-op 還未找到工作, 亦未開始溫習年終考的課程. 結果躲在床上哭了好一段時間. 除了感情上的挫折, 很少時間會真的感到這麼軟弱. 最後實在承受不了, 在教會時, 找了edward 替我代禱. 在禱告的時間, 眼淚也忍不住留了下來. 哭了一會, 心情好像好了. 回家後, 趕緊做hw. 竟然能在deadline 前兩天完成. 效率人難以置信. 隔天, 在co-op又接到了兩個interview 的電話. 今天面試時, 竟然兩份工都say yes. 我只雖教慮在那裡工作便行了.

一切的事. 就像神有默默安排. 我們所心的事, 神必託管. 記得要多祈禱和感恩!

今日返工的時間, 同lab instructor 傾了幾句. 傳福音, 真的要選適當的時間和觀察入微

她說, 以前有一個summer intern的dental student. 她很討厭他, 不單因為那學生為人驕傲, 不分尊卑, 遇因為他在一個science lab 入面將所有大大小小的事也relate 到christianity. 我的lab instructor 知識上當然比那學生多, 加上lab 入面的其他人大部份也是athesist or buddist, 跟本就是從世界各地而來, 每人也有不同的背景和文化. 那學生的行為, 完全是識少少扮代表. 令各人也being annoyed. lab instructor 甚至形容他的行為是"preaching". 更壞的是, 那學生某些時間會告訴lab instructor " I have to stop this experiment now. I have other things to do" 然後其他人發現那學生是要去region 那裡. instructor said " we all come here to find out some fact. There should be nothing related to religion"

那時間. 我真的覺得啞口無言. 我有很多很多話可以說, 但我卻在那刻打不到一個可以精簡地解釋那只不過是一個extreme (and bad) case. 我地平時所受的教導並不是這樣的. 但是我已能感受到lab instructor 反感的情緒. 我怕我任何解釋也只會越描越黑, 結果我對那人的行為, 只表示了不認同, 也沒有什麼可做. 真的很無奈.

我更明白到要傳福音, 真的要選對時間, 還要對自己的態度反常小心. 我地其身不正的話. 對方如果已經對我們沒什麼好感, 做起來一定會弄巧反拙.

唔知大家遇到呢種情況, 會有咩方法解決? 我真係好唔開心. 好不滿自己轉數慢, 又唔夠班. 如果我可以o係o個陣, 諗倒個好的eg. 去counterattack ..或者去好好解釋下, 應該會好好多

記唔記得好耐之前我post 過我睇完民數記的第七章, 唔知佢因乜原因將一樣的獻祭方法寫12次?

整本書也在圍繞聖經中特別枯燥的經文, 解釋俾我地聽點解要睇呢d 經文. 當中也有d幾有趣的段落.

講返民數記第七章, 整章記載左十二支派奉獻給主的十二份一式一樣的清單. 我初初睇咁做未免太多餘了吧...

原來當中係有佢的意義的.

一. 其實十二支派代青所有神的兒女, 雖然佢地大小, 財富德行上都冇所不同, 但係o係神眼中都係平等的.
二. 間接顯出"壇"的特殊之處 (不過這個我反而覺得不太是重複十二次的原因. 說一次也可以做到同樣效果.. 所以我唔長寫啦. 有興趣的自己睇啦. )

作者將聖經入面枯燥經文比喻為我們日常飲食中的食物纖維. 是必需的. 係對我地有益的. 所以大家都唔好怕悶, 唔好跳左唔睇呀!

Give Thanks... Give Thanks to our Lord who carries our each step everyday, who reigns over us, empowers us and enables us in everything we do... Things seemingly impossible just become possible under God's work.

Are you a coffee person, who without the cup of coffee in the morning, just don't feel like yourself for the rest of the day? Or you need coffee to keep you awake at night so that you can finish up your school papers or projects?

The rest of us, who aren't coffee ppl, may have other things that we rely on or cling and attache to for motivation/momentum... could be a cheesecake, a cartoon series, etc, could be money,...power, ... reputation... you name it. But how long and how far can such things keep us going?

People without hope will become lost. (Agree?) God gives us the hope, the true hope. And this hope enables and encourages us to dream. Dream big or dream small... I am so grateful that I have the ability to dream. What about you?

Never give up on the dreams we have. God will turn them into reality for us, as long as we wake up, walk with faith and live the dreams.

上個禮拜四的CCF周會：人生交叉點，系一個既好玩又非常有啟發性的周會。Alan 以storytelling 的形式讓我門每個人都有認真思考的機會，思考 issues over work ethics as well as our Christian witness in the workplace/business world.

Erico, Kent, Suki and Vivian 都“自願”參與Role Play 去飾演故事人物. 話系話Role Play啦，不過最初都系sit at the front 眉來眼去，聽Alan 講述劇情的發展然后用表情演戲。哈哈。 It may be more difficult that way. Who knows?! =) But it's certainly fun to watch.

Well, hope everyone agree that life is full of obstacles - problems and challenges, especially in the secular/business world where people strive for profits and benefits. When we face problems such as moral prolems that challenge our (Christian) values and belief, how should we respond and react to those? When it comes to a time where a decision must be made and it's an either-or situation, what will you base your decision on? It's important to take in to consideration of the whole picture. And as Alan said, there's not perfect situation on either side.

How to keep good work eithics? How to maintain Christian values in the business world? After last week's CCF, I think it all boils down to making the right decisions, cuz every time we are challenged, the challenge will cause us to make decision(s)... And I believe the decisions we make today shape who we are in the future.

昨晚一班CCF-ers一齊出席了Jubilization. 雖然今次去Jubilization, 我放棄了去Howl at the Moon Volleyball Competition的機會, 但是這絕對值得! 為什麼? 因為我跟各位CCF的弟兄姐妹有一次雀躍體驗, 一起experience 我地的信仰

今次Jubilization講的係蓄勢, 我們處於的這場爭戰中, 我地的武器就是神的話語. 我地要好好的使用我們的武器, 就必先熟識它. 現在回想起來, 當時有的3個團契, 就像一場戰爭中的3個支隊. 雖然我們CCF 不是最人強馬壯的一隊, 但是我們必是很有potential的一隊. 我們團結, 互相支持, 一起努力成長. 我們每次的週會, bible study, 就是我們一起練習更熟練地使用我們的武器...所以呢. CCF-ers! 我們要一起繼續努力成長, 做神的一隊精兵!

好像很久沒有寫blog, 好像有點沉悶, 言詞不通. 多多原諒.

另外我還有一個奇怪的問題, 好像總找不到一個好的答案

大家有沒有聽過什麼是elevator pitch? 即是一個對自己的summary. 用差不多一分鐘的時間簡短的介紹自己. 要求的係精簡. 給人一個深刻印象. 如果別人問我們信的是什麼, 大家又可不可用一個elevator pitch style的方法去回答? 當然我不是要用一分鐘去介紹我們的神, 但是我又可以用什麼方法向一個未信的人介紹我們的神, 但又可避免太長太沉悶? 我可不想別人因我太悶太長氣而對這信仰失去興趣, 失去認識神的機會呢...

If God grant you one wish, what would you ask for?

I don't know what you guys thought about when Alan asked us that if we were to ask God for one thing that God would grant us (regardless), what would we ask Him for. Solomon, king of Israel, asked for Wisdom. What about us? What would we ask for?

Right there, I wasn't sure. There wasn't one thing that I particularly thought of. Not many but none. Well, it seemed like it could take me a long time to figure it out because I believe it will require quite a lot of self-reflection and soul-searching.

But when I came home and thought about it again. I am suddenly so sure that I will pray and ask God for one thing, that is, His Everlasting Burning Fire into me. I would love Him to set me up on fire, a fire that lasts for eternity. I need a buring heart to work, to serve and to live.

It's funny that in my interview on Tuesday, when my interviewer asked me this question:" What motivates you?..", I was waiting for her to say somthing more and expecting her to complete her sentences. I repeated her question,"What motivates me???" She looked at me straigh in my eyes,"What motivates you?" I paused for a second or so, then I told her,"to become the best of myself, to become the me God created me to be.... That's my motivation... the thoughts and the desire to make a difference because I believe everyone of us has the ability to make a diffrence in the world. That's what motivates me."

What about you? What would you ask God for, for the one thing?

btw, today I actually wanted to ask Alan too but I didn't grab the chance ...

最近正在閱讀舊約民數記. 總是看到很多很多的數字. 尤其剛才看的第八章, 談及十二支派領袖們獻祭. 其實全部的領袖, 所獻的都是一樣, 不外乎銀盤, 調油的細面, 公牛山羊等等, 連所獻的數目也一樣, 但為何聖經要重複12這些數字呢? 起初我還以為每個領袖會有不同個人風格, 獻上不同的祭品. 但事實上跟本一點分別也沒有. 那為什麼要寫那麼多次呢???

With the help from Erico, I finally finally know how to write in a blog.....

At the beginning of 2007, I re-read a book that I read before ~ The Prayer of Jabez. You may have never heard of Jabez, needless to say his prayer. Actually the story of Jabez is recorded in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10...

9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, "I gave birth to him in pain." 10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

It's interesting how the author, Bruce Wilkinson, can write a book based on two verses from the Bible. It's quite an elaboration... This book reminded me to pray big for God. It really sucks to know that God had prepared great things for us, and the only thing that's missing is our request, our prayer to ask God for His great plans... and our obedient heart to God...

Don't be afraid to ask God for blessings in your life!!!

Mandarin CCF

As some of you may already know that, CCF have started a mandarin division of CCF last Septermber. It is dk who was the first to receive such vision from God. He sees the needs in our campus that students who speak mandarin, too, need a fellowship where they can just feel free to share the Word, their thoughts and life experiences using the language they are most comfortable with, right here @ UBC. Yes, there is a need. Of course, there's more to that...

It's always hard to start something, especially when you don't have enough resources. Then, God brought someone to us. Lucia, who's a former VP of CCF and now a student of Regent College studying Theology. dk, Erico, and I bumped into Lucia on the seconde day of new school term last September. It's suprised to hear her ask us if we had ever considered to start a Mandarin CCF and said she could help! We prayed and pray about it in CCF. We know this is what God called us to do.

Really, not many of us from CCF ST can speak or understand Mandarin well. Even dk who envisioned this is in fact the one who has the most problems with Mandarin. Nevertheless, our ST tried to make it everyweek whenever our schedule allowed. We are thankful that Lucia prepared bible study and basically led every week's fellowship.

Not many students know about our Mandarin CCF yet. But we have the faith that as long as we do our job, God will continue to help and guide us, and things are going to happen. dk is on his coop away from campus, Mandy has class at the fellowship time, but I know they will pray for us as always, right? Now, we need to get down to earth and do our best!

最近在準備coop的功課, 例如cover letter 和resume. 滿腦子也離不開找工作, 寫完再找, 找完又再寫.

剛才祈禱的時間, 忽發奇想, 假如要大家向神求職, 你又會找一份什麼工作呢?

假如我們要寫一封cover letter 和 resume 給我們的神, 我們又會highlight 那些東西? 有什麼hard skills soft skills work experience 可以寫呢?

我自己也沒有一個答案. 現在我求的, 應會是求神給我繼續在CCF裡事奉

今天coop 的導師說, cover letter 寫的不是你想在工作裡, 在某間公司裡想學到什麼, 而是你可以為那間公司提供什麼, 有何貢獻. 那麼, 我們又可為神提供什麼?

我的間題, 大多都沒有答案. 所以今天我的祈禱裡, 我求的, 是神教導引領我, 不要只求神為我們做什麼, 讓我可找到更多可為神做的事. 讓我的cover letter 和 resume 可有所進步

Hey how's first week of school? How do you find the courses you are taking so far? What about the professors. Do you get some really great professors this term?

I was taking 6 courses but just decided to drop one this morning and I did. I knew it's impossible to handle 6 courses on top of job hunting for next coop term, CCF serving and so forth. Plus, I want to have a life and enjoy my life. This is also God's will for everyone. I think God wants us all to enjoy the lives He gave us. haha... It's important to have a balance life. It's also difficult to do. How to have balance life? I think that's something we all need to keep on exploring. But, maybe to really understand what's important to you and what you value, then to prioritize your things at hand can lead you to a balance life. That's something I learned from a time management workshop.

If you think the courses you are taking this term are indeed too much. Don't hesitate to drop one of them. That not only help reduce stress but also give you time and energy to excel at the other courses. I dropped the Computer Networking course which is programming intensive. Though I already found it so interesting in the first class, I decided to drop it. Well, I can always take it later. Now, I am having 5 courses and I want to do my best in each of them. =P

I am taking this course FNH 355 about world nutrition problem. The professor told us many facts that many disasters happened on earth without our notice.

The tsunami victims got more than $1000 funding per person to rebuild their home but victims of another storm or tsunami in africa only got $27 funding per person.

Then she quoted " News are about something that are new" from a newspaper editor. Somehow that sentence struck me at that time.

There are many many things that we know it's happening but we all turn blind to it. As a Christian, we should care about others at all times. However, I guess many of us still ignore the things happening around us. oh well, at least I am like that more than half of the time.

We are the lucky ones on earth. We got to learn about god; we got to live happily; we have a safe home; we have enough to eat and clear water to drink. Think about the other side of the world, many people are struggling at the edge of live and death. We should definitely do something.

I am planning to sponsor a child. Anyone interested? I want to find some organization other than world vision. Any suggestion?

I am reading so slowly. other stuff keep distracting me.

There is a chapter about the right path and by-path. The excerpt it quotes from Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan is quite interesting. It says:

In the hike of the person called Chrisitian, he comes to the cross and finds his burden of guilt taken away. Later, he will have companionship from Faithful, who they share stories. However, Christian will lose Faithful very soon. He will have another companion, Hopeful, who will travel with him for the rest of his journey.

I find it interesting for its way of presenting Christian's life. This book is going to be the top one in my "To Read List" !

如果呢個世界係神造出黎既, 點解佢要做咁多似乎無必要既野呢? 例如Beetles就有450,000個品種! 佢造幾款足夠保持生態平衡未夠lor? 做乜要搞咁多多餘既野? 進化論似乎可以更合理咁解釋點解呢個世界有咁多物種.

但係我地原來可以從另一方面黎睇同一個問題: 神係一位有性格既神, 難道佢唔可以因為喜愛設計而設計? 可能佢真係好喜歡Beetles, 所以就整左450,000個品種出黎! 佢唔單只係一個Engineer, 重係一個Artist : )

當我地接受神係一位有性格既神既時候, 好多其他野就開始make sense.

It is 12 hours away from Bible study, and I still cannot organize my thoughts together.

If you have read my other blog, the topic for this week is "work".

Remember in the last CCF gathering, Joshua was talking about "calling".
One concept that is stuck in my mind is that most of the time calling is not a mystique experience. Rather, on a personal level, one could decern his calling by knowing himself, his life path, his desires, his gifts, and his passions. On a wider level, by being sensitive about what is happening around him and through interaction with other people. These are of course based on being a disciple of Jesus, which is a calling shared by all Christians. Therefore, calling is not about a career choice, it is about responding to God's call. After all, you always respond to a call (you could either answer it or not), you dont choose a call. What does choosing a call means anyway?

Responding to a calling is to serve Christ; it is not restricted to "church work". Instead, any ethical work could be work done for Christ, as shown in Mat 25:35-40

The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me (v. 40)

It seems like we have dealt we calling now, but if we are satisfied with just Mat 25, then we are still high up in the sky. We want to be down-to-earth so that our lives are actually transformed. What is the difference between working with a calling and working without one? Dare I say this: Don't we do the same work anyway?

To answer the above question, we need to understand God's original intend for work. In Gen 1:26-30, God created man and assigned him work which is to manage the whole creation. It is til in Gen 3:17-19 that man has fallen and work became a curse for him. Genesis tells us that sin distorted the relationships with God, with oneself, with other people, and with the rest of the creation. So, God prepared a plan to rescue us. In short, God sent Jesus to redeem us, which is the costly salvation we enjoy. Skipping a lot of significant theological concepts in between, we now arrive at the end of days (!) because we need a good concept of the end in order to know the direction for today.
A common misconception is that in the end (末世), the world will be annihilated and then a band new world is created again. If this is the case, any work we do today will be meaningless, since they will all be destroyed. But the biblical description of the end is not like that. The end is not total destruction. This is why the work we do today, whether "church work" or not, has a value.

Before we go further, let have a short summary:
1. Calling is not about a career choice. It is about what God wants to do with you life.
2. Any work we do could be for Christ, including "secular work" as long as they are not against biblical teaching.
3. Work is not a curse originally.
4. The end is not destruction; therefore, what we do today is not meaningless.

One signature of a Christian is that he has peace. This is exactly God's plan because Christ restore our relationship with God, with ourselves, with other people, and with the rest of creations. Therefore, a Christian who has found his calling will find peace in his work. He will also make peace with people around him. The implication of this is that responding to God's calling is matter of how we live our lives instead of making choices in certain points of our lives. We will discover more if we read Gen 1:26-30 and 3:17-19 again:

1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
1:30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food."

3:17 [God to Adam] ...Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life.
3:18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.

Note what they eat! Before man's sinning, he eats plants and fruits while the beasts eat plants. After his fall, "eat the plants of the field". He is compared to a beast!
Salvation restores us back to God's original purpose, but are we still choosing to eat plants?

3:17 says that work has become a painful toil. What is worse is that the duration is "all the days of your life". But let us look at Psalm 23:6:
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

The man who responds to God's calling lives his life with goodness and love from the LORD all the days of his life. When we talk about the Kingdom of God, it is really not very far away. Today Earth is mixed with bits of Heaven; in the future, Heaven is mixed with bits of Earth. This is why we pray:
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.

考試終於告一段落, 有什麼感想? 沒什麼...只有一大片迷茫

前幾天跟媽閒聊, 她說: " 我們要做一個入世的基督徒". 當時她是指小事如不賭博, 不買六合彩, 等等, 不須太執著.

我當時只是"哦"的回應. 其實我又不太認同. 我覺得有些叫我們守的戒律是對我們好的. (也不知道用戒律是否最適合的名詞).

究竟怎樣是入世的基督徒?

It's almost 2 am in the morning. I am studying for my last final exam which is going to take place in roughly 14 hours. I still have a lot to read but amazingly I am enjoying it because of the Christmas carols I am listening to. It's such a peaceful night to me though there is a storm outside.

Christmas is in less than 2 weeks. (well, Christmas time is already here.) This is the first time I spend Christmas knowing the true meaning of Christmas. It means so much more ... and I feel graciously blessed.

Merry Christmas! =]

希望term 2仍然繼續Singspiration, 直到UBC既末了.

讓我容許自己忙裡偷閒十分鐘吧...

今天真的很感動. 為什麼? 原因有二

1) 今天coop workshop完了後, 同可愛的sylvia同學一齊飛奔由wood 到scarfe, 計時為5分鐘. 可想而知我們是多麼的"歸心似箭"! 幸好還趕上了為Joshua Edward 按手祈禱! 有這兩位導師是天父給我們的恩賜. 他們改變了我的生命. 改變了每個ST的生命. 改變了CCFers 的生命. 希望神繼續保守這兩位導師未來的事工. 加力給他們! 在為導師們祈禱後, 大家竟又為我和DK祈禱, 真的很很很很很感動! 真的感覺到 "being loved". 由上次大家知道我不能再回CCF帶週會的時間, 我已經收到很多祝福鼓勵的說話. 雖然很多的人, 大家相識了真的很短時間, 但這段時間裡, 大家一起學習, 一起歌頌神. 不知不覺間也有一個很strong 的bonding! 我真的很愛CCF這個家. 我真的覺得能來到CCF是神給我們的福氣, 沒有CCF 沒有今天的我... (雖然話說得有點兒誇張, 但可真是事實的確如此!)

2)另一樣我很感動的是...我們CCF 的lost tradition ---SINGSPIRATION 回來了! 還要比我以前去過的更強盛! 我只不過是在星期二有一個random thought 跟DK 分享一下, 誰知道他竟十分支持, 然後Roson 又一口應承彈結他, 最後更為我們做了漂亮的小冊子! Erico Vivian 亦很支持... 各位的反應是我意料之外的. 我本來以為天氣這麼惡劣, 大家會反對呢! 最後更奇妙的是, 天氣在今天竟然好轉, 不單止不下雪, 氣溫還升高了, 難以置信嗎? 我相信是神聽禱告, 祂看到大家火熱的心, 為我們打氣! 今天唱的每一首歌, 我都是由心的歌頌神的. 我很感謝大家的支持, 大家不怕冷不怕髒不怕醜, 高聲高頌我們的神! 我希望我們的歌聲可以打動別人的心! 大家下學期還想再唱嗎? 我很想繼續呢! 大家一起祈禱, 讓我們繼續唱下去!

考試快到了... 各位要一起加油噢!

Ok...I can't help slacking off once I got home. sigh...

Oh well, I am soooooo looking forward to tomorrow's singspiration! I got this random thought of starting it this thursday and I actually got the whole ST team to back me up! Thanks all! I love you!

Hope the weather is not too bad tomorrow. Let's sing with our heart and praise our lord with our voices!

It's close to the end of term. One more week to go then we are into the Final exam mode. I am just amazed that how time flies. Time flies; During the time, things happened, things changed, we got through them all together and we moved on, we moved on in One direction. The togetherness as a team, as brothers and sisters, as friends is something so wonderful that I could not ever appreciate more.

Next term, dk and Mandy are going on with thier coop workterm and coop workshop respectively. They won't be able to make it to our Thursday's CCF gatherings. We will miss them. Thinking of it now, I am already missing them. Of the ST out of five, Erico, Vivian and myslef will be there. dk and Mandy will be working backstage, helping, supporting and praying for us. E.V.R will be there to carry it out and carry it through. Yeah. dk and Mandy will pray for our CCF wherever they are. So will we pray for them.

dk and Mandy, do not feel sorry when you are absent from CCF. Enjoy whatever you are doing and glorify God in whatever you are doing! Love you~

God hears our prayers. He continues to bless CCF and bless our ST so that we grow as individuals, we grow as a team and we grow as a community. Father, please build our team , train us and expand us; please contiune to conform us and make us humble servants of Yours. Amen!

我想extend on 上一篇entry.

今日終於到左呢個咁特別的日子. 今天, 我剛好加入了CCF (由第一個週會到現在 )兩年. 由上年到現在, 帶詩歌帶了一年, 最後, 今天是我短期內最後一次參加CCF 週會.

本來我在心裡想了很多遍要說的是什麼, 大概有5-7點吧...誰知道說出口的, 一半也可能沒有. 不過今日所說的, 全都是由心所發.

今天的感覺真的很悲喜交集. 因為大家(尤其first year 的好姐妹) 都說了很多鼓勵的說話. 很窩心呢...

深深感激一切我一生記心中"

今天好像感覺到, 雖然面對茫茫前路, 但是我背後有一個家會隨時支持我.

"在這爭戰中要儆醒奮起以讚美作武器"

將來面對工作的時間, 我一定會記得讚美, 會記得在CCF中大家一起唱歌頌讚的時間

今天overall我很開心. 為什麼? 就是沒什麼特別, 所以就很開心. 而且我今天終於收到我訂的那兩本書 <> and <> also the CD of Casting Crowns with we are the body and who am i.

昨天去了jubilization. 三次回到世界中心的jubilization 我最喜歡這一次. 因為我喜歡除去舊人, 穿上新人的message. 當然希望自己能做到吧!

不知不覺, 原來這個星期四便是我在短期內最後一次可以在ccf 星期四的週會帶singspiration. 由year 1 下半年到現在, 返ccf都有差不多2年了. 我印象中我沒有skip過一次. (我平時上課應該skip得更多). 我真的很喜歡ccf.

CCF是我重新認識這個信仰的地方, 是我成長的地方, 是我找到一班志同道合的好朋友的地方. 我真的很捨不得走呀... ! 雖然不是完全沒有機會來, 但是這未來這一年多, 可以到ccf週會的機會也不知有沒有十次... 我一定會時時掛念ccf.

"願你帶著歡笑, 走進這個家" 進來當然開心, 離開卻總難免傷心.

不過我希望去coop 呢段時間, 我會可以更努力去裝備自己. 其實現在的我, 實在不足以去帶好一個週會. 頂多也只可以做好帶歌的部份. 希望我可以用這段時間, 做一個更成熟的門徒, 到我再回歸CCF的時間, 可以做得更好!

哈哈! 不過以上的所有事, 都有一個prerequisite. 就是我要pass我全部的courses 和沒被人kick out of coop! 我會努力的.

大家記得要為CCF 禱告, 也請為我禱告吧!

Have you guys ever asked those questions like "do i have to pray again if i am finishing the left over food from lunch?" or "do i have to pray when i drink water instead of eating a meal"?
Well, tonight, I found an answer.

As you might know, each year around this time when it rains a lot for a few days, the tap water tends to get cloudy. At least for my area.
So tonight I went to Safeway to buy some distilled water... but I soon realized all the large bottles were sold out. Having failed my mom's order to buy "large-water", I looked for those 6-pack bottled waters, but those too were sold out. While I was looking for water, some lady carrying 4L milk and other drinks said, "I just want to get more fluid!!"
Wow. At that moment, I realized that although we always feel that we are secure, we are really helpless when something happens, for example, when the water system gets contaminated.

We are really so blessed to have all the basic stuff and a lot more. Need I say anymore?

這些日子大家也很忙碌, 但不知為何, 我好像很悠閒似的. 可能我太懂忙裡偷閒吧! 所以我想在這裡寫下一些隨意的想法(as in random thought =P)

我在看一本書名叫<>, 故事是講述一家四口遇到車禍, 父親和兩個女兒幸保性命, 但母親卻傷重不治. 而整本書就是父親在車禍後寫下的感受.

雖然還沒有看完這本書, 但越看下去, 就越感到人的力量真的很有限, 生命亦是多麼脆弱. 有沒有想過假如下一秒鐘便要離開世界, 你有什麼是最想做的? 有什麼會後悔沒有做的? 最想做的事, 我真的想不到, 因為我太多事想做了, 例如結婚生仔, 環遊世界, 吃喝玩樂等等. (說笑罷了, 真的沒什麼很想做的). 但後悔沒有做的, 可能是沒有機會多和家人相處. 尤其過了加拿大後, 雖然和家人再沒有爭拗, 關係表面上好了, 但是卻少了很多溝通. 也真慚愧, 到現在也沒有對爸媽說過我其實很愛他們的...

所以呢, 這幾天特別想家. (又可能"下雨天總掛念從前 " 的原因吧^^). 也特別花多些許時間和婆婆舅父母一起. 雖然只是吃飯的時間, 但是只要在一起, 感受到大家的存在, 也很好了

我今天做了另一件很勇敢的事(只是我覺得很勇敢而已), 就是我邀請了yours 的朋友一起去參加operation christmas children. 平常的時間我很少會有衝動去邀請他們一起去做事, 因為我覺得自己跟他們總有少許距離, 不算得上真的很好朋友.

但是今次不知為何很想他們也去參加這個很有意義的活動, 所以我發了一個電郵給他們, 告訴他們這個活動. 希望他們會參加吧. 請大家為yours 的人禱告, 希望神會温暖他們的心, 去做這件有意義的事, 亦為operation christmas children 禱告吧! 希望多些人會參加, 多些小朋友可以感受到在世界的另一邊, 還有一班人會關心他們的.

如果你們還沒有pack shoe box, 快點pack 吧! 原來safeway 是可以drop off shoe box 的! 很方便呢!
